But anyway, for anyone who wants to try this out: If it doesn't work, then perhaps someday someone can create a proper emulator. And it is pretty much exactly like using a real Altair.įor these reasons, as long as it works for the people here, then I would I recommend this 100% as opposed to SIMH, since SIMH is extremely cumbersome to use and feels like a fan-hack since it even displays information on screen that is not historically consistent with the original Altair, yet Altair32 has preserved everything by keeping it as original as possible. Then, I'll list it as being a "recommended emulator". But anyway, I'll probably have several other people test this out just to make sure that it works for them. And perhaps the console problems are simply nothing more than a user error on my part. Not to mention the lack of a working help file, however, I've found a video that might help the members here a great deal with getting it to work.īut once I have gotten it to work, it runs very well, and is extremely easy to use. The only problem with it at the moment is the fact that the console occasionally doesn't display, which hinders its usability for CP/M and other software. Even better yet, the program itself supplies a load of disk images and utilities to help people get started. This program is basically a near exact replica of the functionality of a real Altair 8800. And I'll be back later, once I finally get around to testing all of our non-PC releases within all of the emulators that I can find. So if anyone could help me add on to this, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks. What I want is for the members to easily be able to find a list of emulation resources for each architecture within a proper listing, rather than having to constantly search through endless loads of unrelated topics just to be able to find perhaps one or two topics that are even remotely related.

I'll also be providing instructions on how to deal with non-standard disk formats, which is especially an issue since mrpijey has even mentioned this several times, and likewise, I would greatly appreciate it if other members would do the same, if possible.Įmulation is quite an important issue on this site, especially once you start getting to unusual system architectures such as the MIPS R4000, DEC Alpha AXP, PowerPC, NEC PC-9801, Fujitsu FM-Towns, etc. Since I'm trying to help everyone keep the site going, and since it would be a great resource for the members here, I decided to create a topic devoted to emulation.īasically, what I'll be doing is having everyone (not just myself, but others) test each operating system within each particular emulator, and report the results here, and for each test, I'll be compiling a list of which emulators will run which operating systems and vice versa, because that way, all of the members won't have to constantly search through loads of unrelated topics just to find one that has to do with the proper emulator needed to run a certain piece of software.
